Ennice
is a small town located in the northwest Blue Ridge Mountains between the New River and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just a two-hour drive from Winston-Salem and Charlotte, this peaceful community offers relaxation, scenic vistas and recreation. It's part of Alleghany County, once called the "Lost Province" due to its' early isolation, but now known as the "Unspoiled Province" due to its' unspoiled, undeveloped outdoors. The New and Little Rivers near Ennice offer canoeing, kayaking, rafting and fishing and miles of hiking trails can be found in the surrounding state parks and country backroads. There are also several area golf courses open to the public. Sightseeing will take you to other small towns and villages and antique stores and craft shops that offer unique folk art and collectibles. Just a short drive south of Ennice is Stone Mountain State Park. Inside the park is the awesome 600-foot granite dome for which the park is named and more than 13,000 acres of recreational opportunities. Stone Mountain is bounded on the north by the Blue Ridge Parkway and on the west by the Thurmond Chatham Game Lands. It was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1975, and offers more than 17 miles of designated trout waters and more than 16 miles of hiking trails. Accommodations in and around Ennice will appeal to everyone and includes budget motels, cabins, bed and breakfast inns and restored farmhouses.

Ennice Weather & Climate

The Northwest Blue Ridge Mountains range from 800 feet to over 6,600 feet and topography affects the local weather. Expect temperatures to be 10 to 20 degrees cooler on the mountaintops than in the cities below. Spring is unpredictable, particularly at the higher elevations. Summer is warm and humid, but more pleasant at the higher elevations, with temperatures rarely reaching 90 degrees. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are common in season. Winter is generally moderate, but extreme conditions can occur at the mountain peaks. It's not unusual to have warm temperatures in the valleys and snow in the higher areas. In the lowlands, snows of one inch or more occur just 1-5 times per year. More frequent and deeper snows fall at the higher elevations.
