Lake-Glenville
is a pristine mountain lake located in the Cashiers-Glenville area, only twelve miles from Highlands in southwestern North Carolina. The beautiful sandy banks of the lake are perfect for swimming and sunbathing and other activities include fishing, boating, water skiing and canoeing. Pontoon boat rides are also available to view the three cascading waterfalls the flow into Lake Glenville. With the Great Smoky Mountains as a backdrop, visitors enjoy all types of other activities such as world-class golf, mountain biking and hiking, horseback riding, fly fishing, kayaking, snow skiing and snowboarding. The conjoining of the Nantahala, Pisgah, and Chattahoochie National Forests contains some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country. The best known are Bridal Veil Falls, Dry Falls and Whitewater Falls, which are the highest falls in the eastern United States. It drops more than 400 feet in a stunning display of cascades, and crosses the state line into South Carolina as it descends. Picnicking is permitted at the falls and there is one spot that offers gorgeous views of the mountains. From Lake Glenville, it's an easy drive to the mountain villages of Cashiers and Highlands. Both towns offer a variety of restaurants and small shops and galleries that feature North Carolina arts and crafts, antiques, handmade furniture and gourmet food. Lake Glenville is situated in the heart of one of the most spectacular vacation destinations in North Carolina where a new surprise awaits around every curve.

Lake Glenville Weather & Climate

The westernnmost mountain region of North Carolina is the smallest of the three main divisions of the state; the Coastal Plain, the Piedmont and the Mountains. However, its' range of elevation is the greatest; it stretches upward from around 1,500 feet along the eastern boundary to 6,684 feet at the summit of Mt. Mitchell. The climate is definitely effected by elevation. Overall, spring is unpredictable, summer is warm with moderate humidity, autumn is crisp and cool and winters are cold - but moderate. More extreme winter conditions can be expected at the mountain peaks. Showers and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer. Expect temperatures to be 10 to 20 degrees cooler on the mountaintops than in the lower elevations. Although snow in winter is likely, most ski resorts rely on snowmaking equipment because daytime highs can often hover in the 40-degree range.
