Yadkin-Valley
is located in the heart of North Carolina's wine country in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The valley takes its name from the Yadkin River, which serves as the northern and eastern boundaries of Yadkin County. Yadkin Valley is comprised of picturesque farming communities, which grow a variety of traditional crops, and recently it has gained a reputation for growing high-quality grapes and producing world class wines. There are eighteen wineries and vineyards located in Yadkin Valley that are open to the public for wine tasting, tours and sales. In addition, you will find a variety of restaurants, bed and breakfast inns, historical landmarks, art galleries and antique shops in the area. Several special events are held in the Yadkin Valley region each year, including the annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival, usually held the 3rd Saturday in May. Hot air balloon rides are available for an unforgettable and unique way to view the gently rolling farmland and vineyards of Yadkin Valley. Nearby attractions include Reynolda Gardens and Reynolda House Museum of American Art, Tanglewood Park, Old Salem and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem.

Central North Carolina , or The Heartland, has a mild climate that is partially protected by the mountains from the cold air that moves southeastward across the central States. During an average winter, temperatures in central North Carolina range about 10 degrees warmer than the coast, and 10 degrees warmer than the High Country. The rise in average temperature is greater in May than in any other month, and likewise, the drop in temperature is greater in October than in any other month. There is no pronounced wet or dry season in North Carolina, and rainfall varies throughout the year. Summer precipitation is normally the greatest; showers and thunderstorms are common. Autumn is the driest season. Average humidity does not vary greatly from season to season. Central North Carolina does not see severe storms such as tornadoes or hurricanes, as do other parts of the country.
