Buladean is a tiny community located sixty miles northeast of Asheville in the majestic Unaka Mountain Range. It is situated in Mitchell County, which is well known for its incredible scenery and naturally occurring Rhododendron gardens. Buladean is a lovely place to get away from it all, yet a convenient location to many of North Carolina's most exciting attractions. The North Toe River flows through the county and joins the Nolichucky River, known as one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in the country. Just a few of the other activities available in the area include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, canoe trips and downhill skiing. Buladean is just a short drive to Roan Mountain State Park, Grandfather Mountain, the Appalachian Trail and Linville Falls. One of the richest deposits of gems and minerals in the country is located near Buladean, and the world-famous North Carolina Mineral and Gem Festival is held in neighboring Spruce Pine each August. In June, the North Carolina Rhododendron Festival is held in Bakersville, (which is Mitchell County's largest town with a population of just 2,500.) This region is also home to nearly 100 artisans' galleries and studios. During the annual Toe River Arts Council Studio Tours, you can visit the artists in their working environment. Other nearby points of interest include the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, and the spectacular Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina.
