Lake-Chatuge-Village is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina near the Georgia border. The beautiful 7200-acre Lake Chatuge is laced through the mountains and valleys of Clay County, North Carolina and the Hiawassee-Young Harris region of North Georgia, creating approximately 132 miles of shoreline. Constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1941, Lake Chatuge provides various recreational opportunities, including a public boat launch and fishing, picnic areas, camping and swimming. You can take a hiking tour of the area's scenic waterfalls or go horseback riding in the valley. Day trips take you along the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway where you'll discover antique shops, archaeological sites, Indian burial grounds, art galleries and more. Lake Chatuge is also home to the annual Georgia Mountain Fair. You'll find yourself steeped in history and genuine hospitality, whether you stay in one of Lake Chatuge's cozy bed & breakfasts, quaint inns or rustic mountain cabins. The majestic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains will leave you feeling peaceful and relaxed, with little wonder why the Lake Chatuge Village area has become a very desirable vacation destination.

Lake Chatuge Village Weather & Climate

The Mountains, due to their mild summer temperatures, have always been a welcome escape from the heat at the lower elevations. Midsummer afternoon temperatures average only around 80 degrees at elevations of 3,000 feet or higher. Nights are crisp and cool, but seldom too cold for outdoor activities or camping. In winter, snowfall is likely most years, but ski resorts use snowmaking equipment to ensure a reliable supply. Large amounts of snow and extreme low temperatures are rare except at the highest peaks. Rainfall is common in spring and summer. In spring, storm systems that bring cold weather southward reach North Carolina less often and less forcefully than in other parts of the country. Occasional invasions of cool dry air from the north continue during the summer, but are of short duration. Fall has warm days and cool nights and is the driest period.
